Barcelona's medical staff has announced that Barcelona players Carles Puyol (31) and Andrés Iniesta (25) won't be available for Saturday's league game against Deportivo.

Puyol sprained his left ankle during the Champions League final against Manchester United on Wednesday, while new medical tests have shown that Iniesta's thigh injury hasn't yet totally healed despite the good feelings of the player during the final.

Since Iniesta is supposed to be called-up to play the Confederations Cup next month, Barcelona's medical staff has contacted the medical staff of the Spanish football federation to discuss the recovery schedule of the player. Iniesta torn a quadriceps muscle on the front of his right thigh during the league game against Villarreal on Sunday 10 May.

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Barcelona player Carles Puyol (30) is speeding up his recovery because Barcelona will have a lack of defenders for the next league game.

The player feels good and could get the green light on Saturday. This would enable the Catalan defender to be available for Sunday's league game against Sporting.

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that, with the suspensions of Alves, Piqué and Márquez, Puyol will offer to play when he feels more or less ready.

Puyol suffered an injury in his left thigh during last week's cup game against Espanyol on 29 January and was then expected to be out for around ten days (read more here).
