Speaking at a press conference, Barcelona Manager Josep Guardiola has said that Barcelona players Andrés Iniesta (25) and Rafael Márquez (30) will probably not play the second leg of the Spanish super cup next weekend and the European super cup on Friday 28 August:

"I don't think they will be ready. It's too early. They missed a big part of the pre-season and they're coming back from injuries. It's good news that they have started to work with the group but it will take some more time before they fully return.

Andrés caught a virus during his vacations, he lost a lot of kilos and he couldn't start regaining muscles. There was also the jet lag because of the US tour and the death of Dani Jarque also had a serious impact. But now he's back and little by little he's gaining weight."

Márquez suffered a fibre rupture in his left calf, the lower backpart of the leg, during a training session in the United States on Wednesday 5 August and was then expected to be out for ten to fifteen days.

Iniesta tore a quadriceps muscle on the front of his right thigh during the league game against Villarreal on Sunday 10 May and although he played the Champions League final against Manchester United on Wednesday 27 May, he has never fully recovered from that injury. On Friday 5 June, the medical staff of the Spanish football federation confirmed that the player has torn a muscle in his thigh and he was then expected to be out for the next six to eight weeks.

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that Barcelona player Andrés Iniesta (25) could return to action on Saturday when Barcelona will play the last game of the US tour in San Francisco against Chivas.

Apart from his thigh injury, Iniesta has also lost three kilograms because of a stomach virus and is now still one kilogram away from his normal weight. Despite Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola yesterday telling journalists that Iniesta will have fully recovered in a couple of weeks, the paper reports it's possible he could already play some minutes during the Chivas game in the weekend.

On his official website, Iniesta meanwhile says: "For the time being I must continue with my recovery and I expect being able to start playing as soon as possible. I want to return to full action as I'm curious to find out how my leg is doing after these months of work."

"It's a serious injury and it needs time to heal but if there aren't further complications, we'll try to make sure that he'll join the pre-season group sessions around the time of the tour in the United States."

Barcelona's medical staff has announced that Barcelona players Carles Puyol (31) and Andrés Iniesta (25) won't be available for Saturday's league game against Deportivo.

Puyol sprained his left ankle during the Champions League final against Manchester United on Wednesday, while new medical tests have shown that Iniesta's thigh injury hasn't yet totally healed despite the good feelings of the player during the final.

Since Iniesta is supposed to be called-up to play the Confederations Cup next month, Barcelona's medical staff has contacted the medical staff of the Spanish football federation to discuss the recovery schedule of the player. Iniesta torn a quadriceps muscle on the front of his right thigh during the league game against Villarreal on Sunday 10 May.

Medical: Iniesta optimistic about recovery

In a post on his personal blog, Barcelona player Andrés Iniesta (25) showed yesterday his optimism regarding his recovery from a muscle tear:

"My injury is going better. Since I injured myself against the Villareal, in the last match in the Camp Nou, I have tried to put all the senses to recover myself for the next Wednesday...

Today I can say that I've already been doing work during two days in the mountains with Emili Ricart, my physiotherapist, to improve my muscles and my physical training conditions. I shortly hope to be able to begin to run and to touch ball. I am convinced that I will arrive at Rome in my better conditions to be able to help the team."

Barcelona's medical staff has announced today that Iniesta and Henry carefully started training with the ball earlier today. The sensations were good and during the weekend both players will undergo a series of tests to see if they will be available for the final of the Champions League in Rome next Wednesday.

Henry strained the posterior cruciate ligament of his right knee during the league game against Real Madrid on 2 May and was expected to be out for at least three weeks, while Iniesta torn a quadriceps muscle on the front of his right thigh during the league game against Villarreal on Sunday 10 May.

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Barcelona players Andrés Iniesta (25) and Thierry Henry (31) will be available for the Champions League final against Manchester United in Rome next Wednesday.

Both players are in the final stage of their recovery and Barcelona's medical staff and physical coaches would have informed Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola that he will be able to count on them. Henry will have to pass a last serious test later today, but nothing indicates that this could be a problem.

Henry strained the posterior cruciate ligament of his right knee during the league game against Real Madrid on 2 May and was expected to be out for at least three weeks, while Iniesta torn a quadriceps muscle on the front of his right thigh during the league game against Villarreal on Sunday 10 May.

French sports paper L'Equipe claims that Henry could join the group training at the end of this week. A medical source at Barcelona is quoted as saying: "His knee is stable again. There is still a risk that it breaks. But this risk won't be the same in 10 days time."

Barcelona's medical staff has announced that further tests today have indicated that Barcelona player Andrés Iniesta has a slight muscle tear of two centimetres in his right thigh.

Although it hasn't been confirmed what the actual recovery time could be, the player will most probably be available for the Champions League final against Manchester United on 27 May in Rome (read more
here). The specific recovery program will start today.

Asked about the injury, Iniesta told journalists after the tests that he felt relieved: "I will be ok for Rome. It's a little rupture. It's not that bad, I guess it was related to the stress and everything that goes with the end of the season. If it would have been a little higher, it would have been worse, but since it's lower, it's not that dangerous. Despite this blow, I'm happy today. The motivation I have to play will be decisive. I already had told the doctor before that I would be in Rome no matter what."
