Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Barcelona has decided not to renew the contract of Esteban Gorostiaga, the physiologist who joined the staff last summer to keep an eye on the diet of the players (read more here).
The main reason for the decision would be a report by Gorostiaga written half-way the season in which he recommended to give up one of the three competitions because the team wasn't capable of playing all the games left without risking injuries of the key players. Another problem was that the doctor rarely came down to the pitch and only focused on analyzing data that had been collected.
Since the diet is a main focus point of Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola, Barcelona would now be looking for another nutritionist who can replace Gorostiaga next season and keep an eye on the eating habits of the players.
