Barcelona could spend between 60 and 80 million

Asked about the club's transfer budget, Barcelona economic vice-president Joan Boix has said in an interview with Catalan radio station Ona FM that the club could spend more than intially announced:

"The reasonable thing to do, looking at our revenues, is spend the 30 or 35 million euro we've mentioned before. But we could reach a higher figure.

Each year we have benefits, plus the depreciations, the money we could use in the future, in the end we can spend between 60 and 80 million. A part of that could be used to pay off the debt or to invest in real estate, but if the technical department thinks this is needed, we can spend everything on transfers. Exceeding that figure is not recommendable. There are teams that invest more than they gain but we're not going to do that because of our prudent policy and the fact that we keep our feet on the ground."

Well, that's a sudden change. A few weeks ago is was "30-35 because we're acareful", now it's "60-80 because we're acareful"... Ok, well, not too much questions, right?

Now that's more like it. More in tune with the finances of a successful football club.

But was this all a bit too late or are they willing to break the piggy bank just to get Villa?

Personally I don't have any preferences for any players linked with us as long as Pep Guardiola says he need/want him, I consider that player a safe bet but won't this reopen the debate of "if we have that kind of money why don't we go for this *guy* (*put in whoever you wish eg. Ibra, Ribery*)?

Now if that money is made available for Villa alone, I would be pissed, as in not worth the value but if it includes Mata for the stated 65mil, then by all means, i'm for it.

so they say :we told you we have 30-35 because we thought that we would sell eto for 25-30 and hleb other 10 and give around 70 for transfers in the end in order to have some profit,but now that this wont happen we can give 70-80 mil and not have profits.

actually i am happy they tell us the truth this time,although i believe that we have more than that ,at least 100mil.also they said that now because we are after ribery again in order for them to know that we can afford him(unlike previus).thats what i think

Seriously, guys, last year we spend 50 million (fees paid minus fees received), so I cannot see us spend more than that now with the crisis and everything.

When are we gonna start spending the money? after the pre season?

we are keep figthing the last weeks for only one player.

why laporta why?
why do you want and must sell eto'o? is he not good enough for us? the player sees barca as his work and mallorca as his house.
which of the barca player gave his heart to barca just like eto'o is doing?

why do you have to treat him this way?
the way you all treated him before the start of the last season was very terrible but still he gave his 100% for barca and he breaks some records for us and still you want to sell him?
i know very well that a lot of barca fans don't love him and don't buy his shirt but still he works for us as a "slave" although we nearly kicked him out of the house like a dog.

why don't you sell xavi or valdes or puyol or dani alves?
all those players worked as much as eto'o did but still you all don't want to see him next season.

for me he did more than what those players did.
he is a cf but he is not SELFISH.he only scores if he's in the right position if not he gives a assist.
how many would he has scored if he was selfish?
he is still in top condition just like villa.

he is not a partyfreak

and still you want to replace him why didn't you replace messy for example c ron if you need a rw?

do you all think that villa will love barca the way eto'o loves barca HELL NO

and now when you can't get rid of him you want to renew his contract.
what do you think eto'o is?

it deserved you all right if he stays next season and we don't get a penny of him.

why can't you just save that 40mil for you debt and the rest of your money for a dm,lb,lw?

don't forget that if this is the way you treat players we will only get players for huge amounts and not players who are willing to play for barca because they love the fans just like madrid we will end up.

do you think the players of madrid are playing for their soul for madrid? HELL NO. they are just playing for the money.

some are saying that because he's black that's why you treated eto'o so much.

i hope it is a lie

Do we need more than 50 million? Seriously we don't need another CB. Selling Caceres on loan is to me a pretty clear sign that we don't need more defenders. If we bring in Henrique he can cover both RB and CB. Pique, Puyol, Marquez, Henrique and Sanchez on the CB.

What we need in defence is a LB, Filipe Luis for 10 mill. 40 mill left to spend.

Guardiola wants to sell Eto'o. So we buy Villa for 45 mill and include Keirrison on loan. Thats a total of 60 mill (k9 costs 15 mill). We sell Eto'o for 30 mill, now we have 10 mill left.

We can spend theese 10 mill eighter on a backup midfielder or a backup left winger.

CM: Henry is great. Give Pedro more playing time. Trust Hleb more. AND Iniesta plays great on the left flank. With a new midfielder Iniesta can play more on the left flank without it harming our midfield.

LW: We bring in Thiago for the midfield. Henry is great but getting old and Pedro and Gai aren't good enough yet. This way we have a good backup for Henry, so we won't need to move Iniesta around. Hleb could also play more in the midfield, and that way both the midfield and the flanks will be covered.

Barça shouldn't touch the midfield triangle of Toure, Xavi and Iniesta. It has proven to be key for our succes. I expect Henry to be at least as good as last season on the left for one more year, Messi can only get better and Eto'o would probably do just as good as last season as well.

We just need that LB, more cover for left wing and that's it. And Villa if we can get him, because it doesn't look like Eto'o will be signing a new contract.

lots of CBs cost 15 million or less, Raul Albiol for one. just because we overpaid for Caceres doesn't mean CBs all cost more than 15 million!

i find it funny how ppl are still complaining about the eto'o debacle. there's life lesson we must learn here...get over it. wats done is done.

as far as priority signings go...even though now the board has more to spend, thankfully, we shuld still try to be smart. just focus on things we need and at the moment we NEED a seasoned CF, LB, and a back up for xavi. i've been harping on this for weeks but just convert Bojan to LW and we're set. i also strongly believe that Hleb can sub in for Iniesta.

Pep, it would be very kind of you if you give your opinions on possible transfers this season, giving your views on who all are gonna most probably end up at Camp Nou. Just so that some of us won't panic that way :) Only if you find time though.

I have a terrible shortage of time, Anony... And if I do something, I want to do it good, so not quick-quick.

Maybe in the future we'll solve this and I'll actually have time to give my opinion on some things.

I really think we don't need another Cb. Puyol, Marquez, pique, millito(hopefully) and 1 of Caceres and Henrique. If we buy another LB than Abidal could play CB if needed.

The main reason Gaurdiola is interested in signing a CB is to increase our defensive quality against aerial threat and also to increase our own aerial threat. That said, since we already gave up on a back-up for Alves, can't count on Puyol to be CB for the whole season. Also both Henrique and Caceras are not experienced enough for Europe-Level. Only one of them can be in the squad since both are still in Non-EU category.

But back-up for Abidal is a most IMO. C'mon Laporta... What are you waiting for? Grab the Filipe with both hands plzzzzz

lol it's just funny how everyone just ignored the long speech from raidall.

i think pep wants another cb cause puyol will be used as a makeshift rb for next season while still keeping his cb starting place so he will be rotated quite alot and milito isn't guaranteed to be fit and even if he is can he still play at the highest lvl, caceres seems to be going on loan to zaragoza and i'm not to sure about henrique. so basically we have puyol pique marquez milito(TBD) henrique(TBD). if we dont get filipe then we will probably get two cb, that's what i heard.

Pep, now that I know you read every comment, this one is out of topic but just so you know, if I don't say thanks to your replies it's not that I'm unappreciative, it's becoz I'm a hit-n-run kind of blog visitor. Why is it everebody forgets about Milito at the back. Personally i consider him a fantastic defender. Ok he may not be the tallest defender but with a guy like Pique next to him to cover aerial threats he will deliver.

can include keirrison in deal for cissoko and lower its price
or try dual bid for cissoko and bruno for 25m-30m + loan of caceras + loan of henrique + guodjohson
porto needs a striker they r selling lopez to lyon and sold gonzalez so they lack in attacking dept to

Koller is almost 50 years!

And there are plenty of defenders for 15m, like Albiol, we just have to be smart and not be stupid like paying 37m euros for Caceres and Milito.

Hawk: Cissocko has signed for Milan, and Bruno is average. Paying huge money for him is madness. Almost as bad as 17m for Caceres.

cissoko deal saw earlier put on hold due to his dental problem and later it was told like milan wants to reduce the price below 15m in the end it was canceled i hope i am correct

anon no koller is more like 70 from the looks of him hehe jk. why are we still complaining now we have a little more to spend? :O i hope i'm wrong and we arent getting a loan just for this. last deloitte report (sp?) said we didnt earn that much last year and we still have to service our debt tho its supposed to clear by october this year, but we still have to set aside something for the settlement in that pesky lawsuit. having madrid's kind of money would sure be cushy right now.

Honestly why are we worried?
We've got:
Valdes (good gk)
Alves (one of the best fullbacks)
Puyol (a legend)
Piqué (the next legend)
Abidal (solid LB)
Touré (one of the best DMs)
Xavi (the best playmaker)
Iniesta (one of the best midfielders)
Messi (the best player in the world)
Eto'o (great striker)
Henry (Arsenal legend scoring 20+ goals out of position)

Pinto (excellent cover for Valdes)
Henrique (versatile (can play all back 4 positions) defender)
Caceres (though he still needs to learn more, just look at his potential (slide tackles))
Milito (good defender, but injured)
Marquez (good defender)
Muniesa (potential great)
Sanchez (needs to learn, but could be another Alves in future)
Keita (solid DM, long-ranger shooter, and can play in Iniesta's position excellently)
Busquets (cantera product, solid DM)
Hleb (at Arsenal he was similar to Iniesta in terms of dribbling, can get better)
Gudjohnsen (solid midfielder)
Pedro (solid RW backup)
Bojan (future great)
Gai (look at his vids)

and if we do get another player; can you see that player making it into the first 11 and making a big impact other than Villa replacing Eto'o? there is no better defensive-minded LB like Abidal, the is no CB that can be better than Marquez, Piqué, and Puyol. The is no greater fullback for us than Alves. Xavi and Iniesta are untouchable. Touré is a monster. Messi is the world's best. Eto'o is a monster striker. Henry in his first season was our best player.
We can only get backups. In defense we're solid, but can use a backup LB (Felipe Luis). In midfield, we've got many players who can play in Iniesta's position, we could use an extra DM for ANC as well as a proper Xavi backup. In offense, we have Iniesta to back up the wings, Bojan to fill in wherever. Henry can play striker. You cannot get a top player for offense for us, because he knows he won't get much playing time.

we were playing for 3 trophy
this year we r playing 6 trophy so we cant say we will be lucky to escape injury and match missing due to cards
then there is afc

sylvinho has gone so lb needed and millito cant be directly counted on

felipe is good but if they r asking for 14m rather go for cissoko who is much more better and has played in champions league experience

lw and back up for xavi is must ...he had to play almost all matches last season...so some attacking versatile midfielder is necessary who could cover both lw and act as sub for xavi

Spend $60 on Ribery. Keep Eto'o for another season. Promote Gai and Maniesta and forget the rest. Sell Guddy, Hleb and with that money we will have brought Keirrison. Forget the rest.

Yes, 6 trophies instead of 3, but how many extra matches? Not as many as it looks when you compare 3 to 6:)
But surely we need to make the squad deeper. We lacked depth in some moments of last season too.

no, i guess the money obtained by player sales would be added to this 60 to 80 million. So we would probably sell eto, guddy and hopefully hleb for 40-45 million which would inturn make the budget 120-125 million.

i reckon we should get ribery(60mil), villa(40 mill+keirrison on loan), keirrision(12 mill), felipe luis(12 mill), crosas(2mill). plus gai and thiago should be promoted, muniesa should play with barca B for one season and then be promoted to the first team.

so the squad for next should be:

Jose Manuel Pinto
Ruben Mino.

DEFENSE:-
Daniel Alves
Henrique Adriano Buss
Gerard Pique
