Txiki met with agent Bruno Alves

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that Barcelona sports director Txiki Begiristain dined on Wednesday evening in Hotel La Florida in Barcelona with Jorge Mendes, the agent of Porto central defender and Portuguese international Bruno Alves (27).

Although different subjects were discussed, Begiristain mainly wanted to hear first hand from Mendes, who's also the agent of (former) Barcelona players Márquez, Deco and Quaresma, about the situation of Bruno Alves (read more here).

Before Barcelona moves for the Portuguese defender, the club wants to know what they can expect. At this point, it looks like a deal with Bruno Alves wouldn't be a problem but Porto is expected to ask a high fee for the player.

We are looking at a cbs because look at what happened last season...yaya had to cb for two cup deciding games (and did an excellent job btw....)

Milito is a major doubt, we don't know how marquez is going to be post injury

puyi is great but not getting any younger
henrique is untested and caceres does not have the confidence of pep as far as I see it... we only really have pique and puyol and maybe henrique are solid cb choices right now

We need an experience defender but not at such a high price...

Why to get Ribery when Barca can get Zhirkov or Mata for 20M??? No, that's not the way Barca works.

B. Alves is mediocre player and he doesn't worth more than 10-12M. Better to get Aly Cissokho or R. Meirelles, both from Porto.; 13 June 2009 at 03:06

i don't know what we will do with caceres
if we have puyi marques pique and henrique available should be enough but once again a couple injuries and we are in the same boat

Anonymous said...: we are not in the same boat, scano, we already had a 17m central defender on the bench in the CL final, but we didn't use him. there was enough cover, but apparently pep didn't like the cover he bought for 17m euros. so now we can get another cover in Henrique. We don't need more than 4 central defenders and Botia and Muniesa as backup for the backups. This is enough. the only game 3 defenders were out at the same time this season was the cl final, so it is not like it happened alot this season.; 13 June 2009 at 03:52

doesn't matter if we had hleb and caceres on the bench if they were not able to contribute to our team...we had a very light bench this year and our starting 11 was overworked. Is this pep's fault? maybe OR maybe he knew that we were better off not using the players on the bench, after all he works with them everyday in training

Puyol Marquez Pique and Henrique looks very very soild to me...I just though this Bunro alves interest is because they know something about milito or marquez that we do not or if they plan on using puyol to debutize on the flanks again like he did alot this year. Henrique and Puyol are both versatile enough to pay RB (and LB for puyol)
