Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that Barcelona has made Samuel Eto'o late last-night a renewal offer.
Little past 9 pm last night, Mesalles would have received the offer by sms.
The offer includes that his contract, that expires next summer, would be extended for two more years, until 2012, and that he keeps on being paid the same salary. The offer comes few hours before an announced press conference by Josep Maria Mesalles, the agent of Eto'o (read more here).
Mesalles would have invited Barcelanon sports director Txiki Begiristain and Barcelona director of football Raúl Sanllehí to take part in the press conference. If they are serious about renewing Eto'o, which is what the player also wants, the agent thinks it would be best both parties announce it together.
The paper claims that Mesalles will explain the position of the player. Eto'o wouldn't have liked the statement made by Barcelona president Joan Laporta about the out-of-this-world offer he has received from Mancehster City. Whatever decision Eto'o would now make, he would always come out as the bad guy only interested in money: or he accepts the bid of a club that's not competing for the prizes or he stays and leaves for free next year if a renewal deal cannot be closed. Eto'o would not be interested in joining Manchester City and plans to attend Barcelona's first training session on 20 July.
Mesalles would also ask the club to clarify their position. Despite Barcelona president Joan Laporta having repeated his wish that the Eto'o would continue, Barcelona would have been offering him to other clubs. Barcelona officials would have told the agent at the beginning of June that Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola didn't count on Eto'o anymore and that he better could look for a club. Guardiola would nevertheless not have told this face-to-face to Eto’o and would have said goodbye to him at the end of last season saying that he hoped to see him back on 20 July.
