Eto'o holding talks with Manchester City

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that Barcelona forward and Cameroon international Samuel Eto'o (28) has started negotiating with Manchester City (read more here).

Eto'o would have rejected to talk with the English Premier League club for months but would now see that he hasn't a future at Barcelona anymore. Eto'o, whose current contract with Barcelona expires in 2010, has reportedly asked for a four or five-year contract.

Manchester City would have offered a transfer fee of 30 million euro° and while Barcelona had initially valued the player at 35 million euro, they would be willing to accept the bid.

Madrid sports tabloid As nevertheless claims that it looks like Eto'o will stay because he don't want to join Manchester City, which is the only club who is ready to pay what Barcelona and Eto'o ask, since the English club won't play European football next season.

Barcelona site Pelikano claims that Eto'o isn't happy with the attitude of Barcelona because Barcelona president Joan Laporta has said several times over the past weeks that the club wants to renew the player while on the one hand he didn't yet receive any renewal offer and on the other hand the club seems to have been offering the player to several clubs.

barca4life said...: We dont need albiol. Puyol Pique Marquez Henrique Milito Caceres Muniesa Botia. All of these are central defenders. Muniesa is going to be better than Albiol and Caceres and Henrique and Pique are all under 23. What we need is an experienced defender. Just because you think that we have so many central defenders that we don't need it, doesn't change the fact that the club thinks otherwise and we are on the lookout. Albiol has several years of La Liga experience and would have been a very nice addition to our squad. Instead we are linked with a hugely expensive Bruno Alves with no La Liga experience and a Chygrynskij (same age as Albiol) who will cost 15m euros at least according to Ukrainian reports and who is unproven...; 27 June 2009 at 09:22

there is nothing to be pissed off mate especially when u consider how rm tend to overspend n their transfers.they got gago for 20 million when he was hardly known outside argentina, and this is not the only case, they tend to overspend on almost evry transfer.albiol's signing is probably there only economical one since the last few seasons
and our board got some very good transfers, like we got r10 for 24 million!!! we got eto for 26 million and our current board's costliest transfer till date is 36 million for alves which was actually a bargain. regarding k9's transfer we apparently paid 13 million euros to him plus 3 million euros based on his appearances. now compare this to rm's transfers and ul know the difference.; 27 June 2009 at 09:23

Anonymous said...: I totally disagree rohan. Madrid usually pay good prices for their players, you mention Gago from South America, but they also paid 12m for Higuain, 6m for Marcelo, 24m for Robinho (sold him for 42m), all from South America. They paid 10m for Owen and sold him for 20m etc.

iv seen quite a few matches of the brazilian league last season and kierrison is anything but limited
he is an absolute killer in the box, can dribble past players quite easily,he can play on both the wings
the videos posted in this blog dont exactly show wot kind of a player he is and the best part about him is he isnt flashy

barca4life said...: Everybody always complains. We are looking at toni as a cheap striking backup as an alternative to etoo (if he stayed) who provides soemthing different. Lets say we went out and bought benzema. Where would we put him? Would etoo henry messi benzema be happy? We all saw what happened with ronaldinho etoo henry messi. It ended up in chaos. We just won the treble. We dont need major renovations, just to strengthen areas that were weak last year. And maybe swap centre forwards if that is pep's desire. kierrison went on a goal drought for 6 games last season when he moved to palmerias but he later recovered and scored 21 goals in 34 games
