Barcelona CEO Joan Oliver has said at a press conference today that Barcelona is reconsidering their bid for the American football competition Major League Soccer due to the global financial crisis:

"The situation in the US is very delicate and that's why we are evaluating if that situation leads to the model we had foreseen for Miami still standing firm or not.

We still want to be part of the MLS but this will only go through if this means no financial risk for the club. Our partner, Marcelo Claure, is also analyzing if the business plan is profitable or not. He's a businessman and he also doesn't want to get involved in an adventure when he's not certain about the consecuences.

The probabilty that our participation won't become a reality is now bigger than when we announced the project in October. We cannot be part of a bid without being sure about the financial structure behind it being solid enough. Barcelona cannot take any risks regarding to its image. We're looking at the issue because we want everything to be waterproof. There's still time to decide to withdraw, although a decision cannot take long anymore."
