Spanish sports journalist Juan Carlos Rivero talks on his blog about a meeting he had last Sunday with Barcelona president Joan Laporta at a restaurant in Bilbao.

When the name of Real Madrid left winger and Dutch international Arjen Robben (25) was mentioned, Laporta is quoted as saying:

"We would be delighted to have him with us. I'm sure Madrid would want to sell him for 20 million euros. But if we're interested, they will raise that asking price to 200 million euros."

We should just focus on other targets, like Dembele, or maybe some other players from the Dutch league, or maybe from Portuguese or French league. No need to always go to Liverpool or Arsenal and ask for their players which they won't sell. And stop listening to all those agents, and instead do our own research in the different leagues around the world.

Are there no players in the Argentinian league? How about De Federico or Otamendi? We can get them for 5m euros probably because of the money crisis there.; 19 August 2009 at 07:14

skanjos said...: instead of speculating he should make a formal bid or a meeting with madrids president.they have alot of dept and depth they need to sale some players to lower their wage structure,they cant find clubs for their players easily so in the end a deal wont be far away .also laporta shouldnt act like a child in this one,its business.

barca4life said...: I'm not so sure they wont sell. They have 250 million debt and they hope to raise 100 mill from player sales to pay back. Added to which their squad is way to big and they can only register 25 first team players. So if the 28th rolls around and they still have 29-30 players perhaps we can get a deal done.; 19 August 2009 at 07:24

Tottenham tried but robben rejected them and man city have about 10 forwards already Tevez Robinho Adebayor Bellamy Santa Cruz and a host of other attacking Midfielders.

In italy Juve have enough players for both flanks Milan arent spending and Inter want a creative central midfielder not a winger plus robben abandoned mourinho so i dont think he is gonna go there.

The only other club is Bayern and they too have more than enough talent for their wings with Ribery and Schweinsteiger who can run the flanks and other good young players as well. Plus robben may not want to go to germany.

higuain was great last season in finishing and in scoring in important minutes.

i know some RM fans and Higuain is very much loved by RM so they wont let him go easily , robben is wasier to get.

besides robben know that his time is almost gone in rm especially when ribery arrives.

I guess barca should be careful in this story and make only takeitorleave it proposals , i dont want barca pushing robben prize higher so that madrid get more for him from cheslea or from ACM .

if i was txiki i will make a deal proposal limited to 1 day , robben for 35 MEuro take it or leave it .

I like the idea of Sneijder even more though. Think he is much more of a influential player on the pitch, more of a leader than Robben. He could do well on both Barca CM positions I think.

Another RM-has-been I like is Robinho - great vision! Maybe we could get him to stay in Barcelona after the Gamper trashing his team is about to receive.

If Messi gets injured, Robben is good enough to replace him for a few weeks and we know that he can preform against good teams. Pedro has been great so far but who knows if he will do well against teams like Valencia or Atletico Madrid. Who knows if he will be consistent even against the smaller teams. Robben is needed as back up for the next few seasons because right now, we only have Henry and Messi as proven, top class Wingers, (I know Iniesta can play there too but I'm not talking about playing players out of position.) He wont interrupt the youth teams development and hopefully teach Iniesta to be a little more selfish ;); 19 August 2009 at 10:20
